Hamden's Newest Tower Ready to Go

March 25, 2011 - The new Tower 1, a 2011 Smeal 100' midship aerial platform, is ready to go.  Personnel will begin training on Monday.  It is pictured below with Hamden's two other trucks in the parking lot of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church.

The old Tower 1, the twenty year old Pierce 100' rear-mount aerial platform, is also ready to go - to its new owners.  Twenty years ago this piece of apparatus cost approximately $500K.

March 4, 2011 - Our thanks to Hamden Firefighter Daryl Osiecki, who sent us these photos (below), taken by Capt. Ron Desroches at the Smeal factory in Snyder, Nebraska.

Capt. Desroches and Supt. Don Buechele are out there conducting the final inspection on Hamden's new Tower One - a Smeal 100-foot midship-mount tower.  It has a 6 man cab and is about 46 feet long.  It is not equipped with a tank or pump, just ladders and compartments.

Ff. Osiecki reports that, if all goes well, the new tower should be in North Haven at the fire apparatus dealer by next week.
