| A large horse barn and two other buildings were destroyed by a fire at the Butterworth's Farm late in the afternoon on Monday, August 10, 1998. Hamden firefighters were hindered by a delay in reporting the fire, as was the case twice before at this location, as well as dry weather, high winds and no permanent water supply at the Tuttle Avenue site.
Firefighters were able to save some valuable property, including irreplaceable works of art in one of the barns belonging to the Butterworth family.
Mutual aid companies from Bethany, Cheshire, Wallingford and North Branford provided portable ponds and tankers. CLICK the photo on the left to link to view a blend of two television newscasts.
