Butterworth's Barn
Opposite 640 Tuttle Avenue
May 26, 1975

35 years after their first barn fire and 20 years after their home burned, the Butterworth family lost another barn on Memorial Day evening 1975.  The barn was fully involved when first due Engine 5 arrived.  Delayed reporting and limited water supply once again were significant factors in the loss.  Once the tank water from the responding pumpers was exhausted, firefighters had to use portable pumps to draft from a nearby shallow stream.
