An invitation brought our brother, B/C Tom Doherty (Ret.), and a fellow retiree to Station 4 earlier this week for a tour of the station where he was house captain from 1977 until his 1984 promotion to shift commander.  Station 4 underwent a massive renovation starting 12 years ago this month.  Tom said he hadn't visited the place since his retirement exactly 25 years ago last week.

* First, a greeting from Fire Chief Gary Merwede, who was assigned to Tom's Platoon 3 as a new recruit 27 years ago, when their first encounter resulted in, "Lieutenant, ya wanna tell the bald guy to get off the Rescue!" - LOL!!
* Ff. Beaton and B/C Doherty. The "Alarm Room" looked much different than when Tom was house captain.
* Access to, and quick exit from, the upper floor
* Same corner after renovation - Spiral staircase gone - Pole still there, just out of camera range
* Apparatus floor before renovation (from the top of the spiral staircase)

* With B/C Ron Desroches, working today on Pl. 4, on retired B/C Gary Couture's first official day of retirement.
* The "Day Room" in 2009
* The "Day Room" after renovation. The arrow denotes approximately where the clock in the 2009 photo was placed.
* Ff. Beaton generously provided the retired B/C with a replacement "Retired" decal for his new car.

Johnson could not resist taking this view of Dave and the retired B/C because . . .
. . . in the same location nearly 40 years ago, on October 31, 1981, he took this shot of retired D/C Ken Harrington with Ff. Jimmy Koutsopolous. Same shift was working, too.

* June 1971 - Here's a rather youthful looking Lieut. Thomas Doherty showing some school kids (now well over 60!) the fairly new Maxim 1,000 gpm pumper at Station 4.
