Spring 2018 HFRA Meeting
Wednesday, April 11th
PIZZA!

The members of the Hamden Fire Retirees Association held their 38th regular meeting this past week at the Hamden Elks Lodge hall.  A report on the Association's tax-exempt status is still pending from the I.R.S.  The summer meeting is tentatively scheduled for Thursday, July 12th, but that may change depending upon the Elks' schedule.  Members will be notified well in advance.

"The Aug"
Our main man, Harold Mangler - he never misses a meeting.
Clark Hurlburt and Paul Tavaras
John Reynolds and "Red" Ralph Purificato
Jack Mordecai and Paul Petrillo - a couple of Platoon 1 legends
On the department just under four years when elected in 1977, Jack Mordecai was a president of
the Hamden Paid Firemen's Sick Benefit Association when it was still the bargaining unit.

__________

Two more Platoon 1 legends - Bobby Slater and Chick Manware
Bob Slater was the last president of the Hamden Paid Firemen's Sick Benefit Association when it was still the bargaining unit.  He was elected the first president of the Hamden Firefighters Association, an interim bargaining unit before we joined the I.A.F.F.  Whenever firefighter safety was a concern, Bob was never afraid to take on the brass - and he sometimes paid the price.

__________

El Presidente Bobby Mordecai - He always runs a tight meeting (finished in nothing flat - just like we like it - let's eat)
__________

We try to start every meeting with a group photo.
Here's how it happens:

Setting up the chairs . . .
All set - Camera focused and level
Members file in and find their spots. Chickie found his.
If the back row were only for the guys under 60, there'd be only one guy there!
"Ok, Guys, let's get this done."
"Bobby Slater, this chair is for YOU!" (Notice only the REALLY old guys get to sit in the chairs.)
"Smile!"
Standing (L-R): John Reynolds, Clark Hurlburt, Augie Williams, Paul Tavaras, John Poe, Ray Dobbs, Harold Mangler Bobby Viglione, Jim Leddy, Brian Forsyth, Paul Petrillo, Mark Pratt, Dave Johnson and Ralph Purificato.
Seated (L-R): Jack Mordecai, Bob Mordecai, Bob Slater, Chick Manware, John O'Hare and Tom Doherty.
