It has been 35 years since a Diamond-T pumper sat on the ramp of a Hamden fire station.  At that time, it was Dunbar Hill's 500 GPM pumper, manufactured in 1942 by the Wood Engineering Service of Topsfield, Massachusetts.

Wood manufactured five pieces of Hamden apparatus, all on Diamond-T chassis.  Four were built especially for Hamden:  a 1938 "Emergency Squad," a 1939 500 GPM pumper, a 1941 city service ladder truck, and a 1942 600 GPM pumper.  Dunbar Hill's 1942 Diamond-T 500 GPM pumper was purchased second-hand from Prospect in December 1957 and remained as Co. 8's pumper for nearly another 20 years, when it was sold to a private party.

The Diamond-T pumper pictured here was manufactured by another major supplier of Hamden fire apparatus:  MAXIM!  Dave Lockery, a longtime member of the Dunbar Hill Volunteer Fire Co. acquired this beauty a couple of years ago from a private party here in the northeast.  He drove it in the recent Memorial Day parade.
