PRESS RELEASE
Office of the Mayor
04/18/2020
Hamden Food and Cloth Mask Drive!

Monday (4/20), Wednesday (4/22), and Friday (4/24)9:00am to 12:00pm @ Hamden Middle School Parking Lot

HAMDEN, Conn. - Drop off food and cloth masks, and pick up a lawn sign thanking Hamden first responders and medical professionals.

The Town of Hamden and Hamden Public Schools are collaborating to set up a mobile donation site to collect food for the Keefe Community Center and Miller Senior Center food pantries, as well as to accept donations of cloth masks.

The mobile donation site will be in the Hamden Middle School parking lot (2623 Dixwell Avenue), next to the cafeteria, from 9:00am to 12:00pm on Monday (4/20), Wednesday (4/22), and Friday (4/24). Please leave your donation on the table next to the truck, and practice social distancing by staying at least 6 feet away from the staff.

Whether you make a donation or not, please stop by to pick up a lawn sign to show your support for Hamden First Responders and Medical Professionals. Town of Hamden “Thank You” lawn signs will be available to anyone who wants to display one. If you are not able to pick up a sign but would like one, starting Monday you will be able to request a sign for delivery to your house by Hamden volunteers. Just visit the SeeClickFix portal at Hamden.com/seeclickfix or download the app on the App Store or Google Play Store and select “Request a Sign” under the Hamden - COVID-19 section. Signs will be available on a first-come first-serve basis.

Thank you in advance to everyone who donates food. Due to the unprecedented economic hardship caused by the COVID-19 pandemic there has been a substantial increase in people using food pantries. The Keefe and Senior Center food pantries welcome all non-perishable food donations, but in particular are looking for certain items that have been more difficult to get through their usual sources. Please consider donating:

-          Cereal

-          Pancake mix

-          Hash

-          Grits

-          Oatmeal

-          Milk (shelf-stable such as Parmalat, dried, evaporated)

-          Rice

-          Canned fruit/fruit cups

-          Peanut butter

-          Crackers

-          Hearty soups

Commenting, Mayor Curt Leng said, “Hamden is working together as a community for health and safety by staying apart, and it's helping slow the spread. We're very thankful that there are so many generous and good hearted people that want to help. Because of these good people we've collaborated between the Town and Board of Education to set up these drives, which will allow us to collect supplies in a safe and socially distanced way (wear your masks!) for people who have needs and for people who we really want to help stay home as much as possible due to underlying health concerns.”

The Town of Hamden thanks all those who can give to their community, and we look forward to seeing you at the mobile donation site.

For more information on the Hamden Food Bank please call the Keefe Community Center at 203-562-5129 extension 1110.
