Winter 2019 HFRA Meeting
Wednesday, January 8th

The members of the Hamden Fire Retirees Association held their 40th regular meeting this past week at the Hamden Elks Lodge hall.  The Treasurer's Report for 2018 was presented.  The Sunshine Committee reported on the status several members.  Much of the meeting dealt with the Schoolhouse Building Committee, which added three new members.  The 27 attendees included several guests, including newly-appointed Chief Gary Merwede.  The spring meeting is tentatively scheduled for the evening of Thursday, April 11th.  Members will be notified of the menu and exact start time well in advance.

Retired Chief David Berardesca attended his first meeting as the HFRA's newest member.  His successor, Chief Gary Merwede, also attended and offered some very thoughtful praise to his former colleagues.  The Legislative Council will be voting on Chief Merwede's appointment in the very near future and a swearing-in ceremony is expected to follow shortly thereafter.  Members will be notified.

New Rescue Units In Service

Right after the Wednesday meeting, the webmeister ran into Firefighters Mike Mordecai (left) and Kevin Recca, who gladly posed next to one of the department's three new rescue units, in its second day of service.  Like the units they just replaced, these three new units will serve as Rescues 1 and 2 on a rotating basis.

NEVER FORGET!

We will always remember our brother firefighters who made the supreme sacrifice, and the thousands of other innocent victims who lost their lives on September 11, 2001.

Always keep them, their families and the FDNY in your thoughts and prayers.
